Vina del Mar is just a few hours on bus from Santiago. It’s a picturesque oceanside town with a long and beautiful beach. It’s very much an area for the wealthy Chileans and tourists with its giant polished condo building and clean modern streets.

Getting to Know Santiago

Oh what an incredibly modern city! After a month in Lima and ten days in the Peruvian mountains it was so refreshing to be in a city with well maintained sidewalks and traffic that respected pedestrians. We lived near the downtown of Santiago, close to government buildings and museums. It was definitely the most polished part of Santiago and we, admittedly, adored the comfort.

Exploring Cusco

Cusco, was it amazing or was I oxygen deprived and delirious? Why not both! Damn Cusco! you take my breath away (I will never stop making that joke). After living at the 3400m I feel I have the right to joke about the lack of oxygen i dealt with. Thankfully, neither John or I had any major altitude sickness, just some gasping for air in the middle of the night and inability to climb hills faster than a slug.

Adventure Overview: Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, and Cusco

Before I get into too much detail about this amazing Andean adventure I want to share an overview of how we did it. Everyone has a “best” way to go to Machu Picchu and while mine might not be the the best for everyone, I do think it worked out well for me and the type of travel I like.

First Impressions: Lima

*I wrote this a few weeks ago when I was in Lima but had trouble adding photos due to bad internet. Sorry for the delay! Pretend I’m still in Lima when reading this haha!*

Woah! Lima! Hey! 

I’ve been in Lima for almost 2 weeks now and I haven’t done any of the huge tourist things that Pinterest keeps recommending to me. What have I been doing? Well, just a lot of exploring of my adorable Barranco neighbourhood, eating, and absorbing the sweet sun rays.
