Hello world! No really, hello!

Where do we start?
How we met? Too mushy. What we’ve been doing since we met? Another time. Maybe the conversation that brought us to the start of our adventure? Ya, that’ll do.

One restless winter/spring day in Halifax, John and I got to talking. I desperately needed a change. I was sick of our apartment and wanted to move. John seemed reluctant at first, but I wore him down with incessant childlike whining, “but I want! Neh, NEED more space and something different!” We moved our lease to a month to month contract to give us flexibility. All we needed to do was find the perfect apartment and decide when.
Time passed, days into hours, hours into minutes and we didn’t find a new place.
John, however, did ask if I wanted to go to Australia with him in the fall for a conference. My immediate response was, “but I wanna go to Italy!” said in a spoiled child’s voice (sensing theme). I’d been unofficially saving for a big tour de Italy and was hoping to not use that money on the surely lovely Australia.
A week later, John asked again if I wanted to join him in Australia and I decided I couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity to see toilets flush the opposite direction and eat every flavour of Tim Tam. But still bummed about Italy I said, “why not both?”
We’ve been talking and loosely planning a long-term travel extravaganza focused on Europe for a year or two, so I thought a big trip to Australia might be a great launching point. We can get rid of our apartment, store our stuff, and set off to live in other places over the next year.
We were in agreement. We booked our flights. It’s happening.
