Wine, opera, and all the rest
January 15, 2016

After our Christmas and New Years party extravaganza we decided to get out of the city. I wasn’t too keen on any hiking adventures as I’m allergic to the outdoors, but we did hear good things about the Hunter Valley wine region. I like wine and I like valleys! So off we went on the left side of the road to a little BnB in the Valley. We booked an adorable horse drawn carriage wine tour, but it rained on us the whole weekend and the carriage was stuck in the mud and was cancelled. Proving once again why horse drawn carriages isn’t the common mode of transportation.

The valley was beautiful and the rain didn’t crush my spirit. We did a couple wine tastings and had to resist buying everything because we were moving on to Perth in a week.

I would totally go to the Hunter Valley area again. It was a blast. Plus seeing kangaroos in the wild really rounded out my Aussie experience.
THEN we went to the Opera like the fancy people we are. Yup that’s right, a show at the big house. We went to La Boheme an Italian opera.

It was a beautiful show and even though we were sitting in the “cheap seats” the sound was amazing. I couldn’t believe how elaborate the set design and costumes were. However, they mostly won me over by letting me drink champagne in the theatre.
During our last few days in Sydney we hung out with our friend Morgan, enjoyed tasty local beers, and tried some new restaurants in our hood.

And that was it for our stay in Newtown and exploration of the Sydney area. Just a wonderful place to be in, so much happening all the time and friendly people all around. All good things come to an end and with so many wonderful things to look forward to how could we possibly be sad about it. Onwards to Perth and then Spain. Hopefully my brain won’t explode with all the amazing I get to experience.
