A whirlwind tour of Iceland.
December 27, 2016

Iceland. Iceland is pure magic. Everywhere you look it’s like a background of a Da Vinci painting. It’s hazy, dreamy, full of muted colours, and dramatic. It’s otherworldly. We spent about 4 days there where we stayed in Reykjavík and rented a car to explore all the sights with.
Most of it was a blur. We were jet legged and tried to fit in so much, but I took lots of photos to share and remember the journey with.
To set the tone of our travels I’d like for you to listen to Sigur Rós. It sounds like the landscape looks: surreal.
I don’t like to tell people what to do, but listen and look at my photos. (also watch this video because it’s beautiful)
Day 1: We arrived very early from Edmonton and decided to check out the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. I mean what else are you going to do when you’re jet legged and can’t check into your apartment yet? The Blue Lagoon was nice, but I’m so glad we were there in the early morning because that place gets hella busy! As we were leaving the hordes started coming in. My skin was incredibly soft for days after!
After the spa, John’s lovely friends invited us over for brunch. I’m afraid I was an actual zombie by that point and I don’t remember speaking words or if I sat there drooling over breakfast foods and coffee. I’m very good at first impressions.
After a nap we were ready to take on some exploring of Reykjavík.
Day 2: More Reykjavík!
Hallgrímskirkja, a unique landmark church of Reykjavík. You can go to the top of the tower for a small price to get an epic view of the city. I read that this church was inspired by the Black Falls (Svartifoss), another landmark of Iceland.
Day 3: We rented a car to explore the wonderful countryside of Iceland. Our first stop was Þingvellir, a place of historic and geologic importance. Read about it! One of the most stunning spots I’ve ever been to. I took so many photos.

Afterwards we headed over to check out some geysers!
As if that wasn’t enough, we found a big waterfall. A waterfall full of rainbows! This is the Gullfoss waterfall.
To end the day we climbed around a giant crater lake: Kerið.

On our way back to Reykjavik we spotted some friendly Icelandic horses.
Day 4: More waterfall!
Then over to the village of Vík.

We checked out the amazing black sand beach.

The cliffs had cool basalt columns, just like in Northern Ireland!

Sheepy! Hey sheepy! gimme yer wool.
I bought wool from this shop! I knit so many things. All the wool is dyed with natural colours that are similar to the colours found in an Icelandic landscape. Icelandic wool was one of the main reasons I wanted to visit Iceland, because I love knitting more than anything.
One last waterfall!
Then off to the airport to grab some booze and head on to our next adventure.
Next: the start of our travels with my brother and his girlfriend.
