Visiting Vina del Mar and Valparaiso, Chile

Vina del Mar is just a few hours on bus from Santiago. It’s a picturesque oceanside town with a long and beautiful beach. It’s very much an area for the wealthy Chileans and tourists with its giant polished condo building and clean modern streets.

We went to Vina del Mar for a day trip from Santiago. We found an amazing seafood lunch, hit the beach, walked along the water, and enjoyed some amazing empanadas before heading back to Santiago on the most luxurious bus.

Down the coast from  Vina del Mar is Valparaiso. These two towns could not be more different from each other. Valparaiso is rough around the edges with a very bohemian aesthetic. Think colourful street art on funky colonial houses and twisty streets up steep hills.

We visited Valparaiso over a weekend and stayed one night at a cute little hotel. I loved exploring the twisty streets, looking at the amazing street art, and enjoying tasty foods.

Naturally, we visited the graveyard.

We also enjoyed the maritime naval museum.

We had such a great time. Valparaiso is so vibrant and interesting.
